I'm Dreaming of a Lexus 600 h L

2013 Lexus 600 h L

My dream car..I can’t decide if I want to drive it or be driven. Hi this is
Cathy Droz with Car Pro and I am dreaming about the 2013 Lexus 600 h
L. The h stands for hybrid and the L for Long base and Luxury. This
executive transport LS may not be for everyone at $119,000 but driving
it and experiencing the backseat was more fun than my first kiss. The
new spool grill of Lexus graced the front and under the hood the V-8
engine and hybrid technology gave me the best of both worlds. I rode
in the backseat and never wanted to leave with a 9-inch blu Ray screen
that motored down from the ceiling, wood table that popped up from
the floor and the rear seat ottoman lifting my legs to a man cave
comfort. The console between the seats provided a frig, there were
three airbags per passenger including knees and Shiatsu Style massage
pulsating through my reclining chair. Dream car yes… next wish… a
chauffeur. Till next time, this is Cathy Droz with CarPro for more

2012 Buick Regal - Fit for a Princess

KFYI CarPro with Jerry Reynolds

Saturday 11 AM to 2 PM :60 Auto Review

When I hear Regal I think Royal Family, jewels, England ! HI this is Cathy Droz
with Car Pro and if you are thinking Buick, you would be right. I can envision the
Royal Family driving the 2012 Regal GS… as it is a very luxurious sedan with more
pep than Prince Harry and as beautiful as Kate. The turbo ecotec engine and 6-
speed manual transmission may seem like a dichotomy to the exterior but it
looks and drives flawlessly. The Regal gets 27 miles to the gallon highway and for
$35,000 this American Made car has every bit of technology, spacious seating and
classy lines as any European model. The GS is the Regal’s sport version including
l9 inch alloy wheels and a 4-way lumbar seat I so enjoyed. Driving a Buick Regal
thought the streets of Scottsdale may not be the same as driving in to
Buckingham Palace, but I felt quite princess like just the same. Till next time, this

Cathy's Car Corner - You Need a SOUL !!!

Two for the Road USA

Auto Review – KFYI Clear Channel Radio – Saturday’s 11 AM to 2 PM
CarPro with Jerry Reynolds
By: Cathy Droz

It’s good to have a big heart.. but there is nothing like having a soul… Kia SOUL that is. Hi this is Cathy
Droz with Car Pro. I just test drove the 2013 KIA soul wagon last week and loved the way it handled
both highway and the curvy backstreets. The SOUL is funky and hip and with a hatchback as
door number five, it can transport more than you think. The functional Soul has a base
price of $14,400 and you get plenty for your dollar. 1.6 liter 4 cyl engine, automatic transmission,
Bluetooth, IPOD input, satellite radio, front and side airbags, stability control and ABS brakes.
OH ! and a 5- year 60,000 mile warranty. My favorite? Hill Start Assist control.. not that living in the
desert has a lot of hills, but getting to the polls last week to vote had its ups and downs, So come on …
the hamster commercials alone make you want to test drive the Soul.. have a heart… own a Soul.

Cathy's Car Corner Praises Hyundai Sonata

As Heard on KFYI – Clear Channel Radio – Saturday’s 11 AM to 2 PM
CarPro with Jerry Reynolds By: Cathy Droz

My son Jason wants to lease a 2013 Hyundai, Sonata. I know it’s a good car but why the Sonata? Hi, this is Cathy Droz with CarPro and as my son said.. it’s a luxurious looking sedan, spacious both inside and out and the prices start at $20,000. This suburb daddy, with three small children put the Sonata to the test at the dealership by placing all three of the kids car seats in the back and then threw his golf clubs, grass seed bags and other props he brought into the trunk .. the five–seater passenger car with two moon roofs, 60,000 mile warranty and 35 miles to the gallon highway, passed the test.

For me…I like looking at rears .. and I think Sonata has one of the best ! For 2013 Sonata has a hybrid
and turbo version but the entry level was all my son needed. It may be good for a family of five but as
an empty nester I loved how quiet it was just driving all by myself to the Suns game.

Two for the Road Staff recommends Jodie and Jeff

Who Should be your Spokesperson?
In the auto business... Should the GM go on Camera or a professional talent?

A Savvy Spokesperson

Far too often the company spokesperson is picked by default. They are available, they understand the ins and outs of the business or maybe it just comes down to the fact that they're the boss. But none of the above really makes for a good spokesperson. Choosing the person that represents your company in the media and public eye is one of the most important marketing decisions you will make. Set ego aside and take some time to make the best choice. Here are some tips to help:
  • Look for someone that is a bit of a ham and will enjoy the attention. As annoying as they can sometimes be, these people tend to have the outgoing personality needed for a spokesperson.
  • Yes they should know the company inside and out, but the real challenge is can they easily explain what the company does to someone outside the industry. A person that can easily and quickly break down complicated issues into layman's terms makes for a great spokesperson. Often the person that knows the most about the business, tends to have a hard time getting to the point and describing things simply.
  • How do they handle pressure? You want someone that is passionate, but if they are a hot head and tend to fly off the handle when agitated, spokesperson is NOT the position for them.
  • How do others react to them? Are they likable? The person that everyone seems to want to chat with at the holiday party? This could be your spokesperson.
  • How well do they follow directions? Do they seem to want to change things up or add a little something different when given a task? This may not be your spokesperson. A good spokesperson needs to be able to follow talking points and stay on task.
  • Finally, if you are the boss, consider that someone other than yourself may be the better spokesperson. You will always be needed from time to time, but if you are not the best overall face for your company, that's okay. You are busy running it!

Two for the Road USA and Edsel Ford II

Two for the Road USA - Cathy Droz and Cathy Burford has the pleasure of spending some time with the great grandson of Henry Ford on Thursday, November 8th.  First at the fundraiser for the Salvation Army and later that evening for a dinner with the Phoenix Automotive Press Association. Both speeches given by Mr. Ford II were excellent.  The first about giving back and the later one involved NASCAR and how his grandfather got in to racing.

Automotive Shoes We Love

Grand Opening Peter Helle Shoes

Two for the Road Auto Journalists have been invited to the Grand Opening of the Peter Helle Shoe Salon at the Biltomore Fashion Park this Thursday. Since I don't pay more than $89.00 for a pair of shoes, it will be interesting to see what Mr. Helle charges. I hear his designs are beautiful. I would love to find a pair that had a car theme. Keep you posted. Cathy Droz and Cathy Burford are attending this one.

Russo and Steele - Two for the Road Checks it out

http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RussoandSteeleCollec/67fd03f36c/a73ce25079/973b866f05

For Immediate Release

1963 Catalina Super Duty “Swiss Cheese”
Scottsdale, Arizona (October 17, 2012) – As one of the most radical factory-built weapons conceived during the Super Stock wars of the early 1960s, Pontiac’s outrageous “Swiss Cheese” Catalina Lightweight was purpose-built just for one mission: to maintain dragstrip supremacy. To do this, 14 full-size Catalinas were plucked from the assembly line, stripped of all sound deadener and insulation, and relieved of one inside frame section. Aluminum body and mechanical parts were used extensively. Some 120 round lightening holes drilled into the sides of the frame rails at John DeLorean’s suggestion begat the famous “Swiss Cheese” moniker. As completed at the Pontiac assembly plant, the Super Duty 421-powered cars were some 800 pounds lighter and easily produced low-12s at about 115 mph on the quarter-mile. Now, as then, the “Swiss Cheese” Lightweights reign among the quickest, rarest, and most coveted muscle cars in existence. Just nine remain today.

The example that will be sold at the 13th Annual Russo and Steele Scottsdale auction event January 16-20, 2013 is one of the 14 original “Swiss Cheese” lightweights built by Pontiac and one of the 12 originally finished in Frost Silver. After being tested by Pontiac stalwart Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick, whom already had received his own car, this particular “Swiss Cheese” Catalina was instead delivered new to Wilmington, Delaware’s Union Park Pontiac.

During 1963, popular Union Park salesman and driver Harold Ramsey raced it to great effect against Mopar’s finest Super Stockers including Bobby Harrop’s “Flying Carpet” and Bud Faubel’s “The Honker”. Next, Ramsey altered the car’s wheelbase for A/FX, the forerunner to today’s Funny Cars. In May 1965, Ramsey ultimately achieved a blistering low ET of 8.91 seconds at 148.00 mph with the Catalina, which continued racing into the late 1960s with Larry Johnson as the “Funny Tiger”.

The current owner acquired the big Cat, still wearing its late-‘60s livery, in 1997. Thorpe’s Body and Corvettes Shop of O’Fallon, Illinois executed a complete, concours-quality restoration with the painstaking 3,000 man-hour job returning the car to original appearance and specifications. In 2010, the restoration was completed and the Catalina dominated the show field; achieving a perfect 400-point score that year at the June 2010 Charleston, West Virginia POCI Nationals, followed by Concours and Gold Certification at the November 2010 Corvette & Musclecar Nationals. During 2012, its winning streak continued with Senior Gold at the St. Charles, Illinois POCI Nationals and First Place at the Norwalk, Ohio Pontiac Nationals.

The 1963 Catalina Super Duty “Swiss Cheese” example offered at Russo and Steele Scottsdale is confirmed, documented, and pictured in the definitive book, Pontiac Musclecar Performance 1955 -1979, by experts Pete McCarthy and John Angelis. As one of the 14 known original, factory-built “Swiss Cheese” Factory Lightweight Catalinas produced for 1963 and one of just nine remaining today, the provenance of the Union Park Pontiac Catalina is simply beyond reproach. Restored to award-winning perfection, it is more than worthy of headlining any serious collection of American high-performance cars.

For further supporting documentation, high-resolution images or more information on this 1963 Catalina Super Duty “Swiss Cheese” Lightweight, please contact Stephanie Quinn at Stephanie@russoandsteele.com.

Drive For Breast Cancer Awareness CROSS Country Tour

I am so proud and excited to be one of 100 Automotive Female Journalists driving cross country to bring awareness to Breast Cancer.
The Founder,Christina Selter, has a great story and  is a wonderful woman.

Join us along the way.... September 24th to October 2nd

ChristinaSelterEditorInChief

Christina Selter Automotive Journalist, Spokesperson, Host>

Why did you create the “Drive Breast Cancer Awareness” event?
I want to not only create awareness of this terrible disease I want to pay homage to those that have fought and lost. In our extended family we have experienced the pain that is brought on by breast cancer, Aunt Jean was the most difficult for me. My last day with her we spent time watching Joel Osteen. She was a Marine and was honored by President Clinton as one of the Top Female Business Owners. When Aunt Jean passed, I received a condolence letter from Hillary Clinton. I realized it wasn’t just our family who thought she was an amazing woman so did all the people she touched along the way including the Clintons. I want to be like her! (who do you want to be like?)
I found a way to combine my automotive expertise and with my concern for breast cancer awareness. I have found a new way to leverage my communications background and raise public awareness of breast cancer. I created “Drive Breast Cancer Awareness” event. Our first event in 2011 sponsored by (HerHighway) and Acura, Honda, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Fiat were our vehicles partners. We were featured on morning TV news, we scheduled a police escort, firemen turned out in pink shirts and most of the big boys “automotive news publications” attended and covered the entire event.
What I was preaching hit home. The unspeakable happened my doctor said: “Christina you need emergency surgery you need a Capsulectomy”. The room emptied of oxygen, am I going to die, how was I going to tell my daughter, my husband, my mom? I drove home, prayed the entire way.
A week after our 2012 Drive Breast Cancer Awareness I am schedule for surgery.
What I expect from our event is that I want women to be empowered with knowledge that may help them through this experience:
  • Get a second, even third opinion
  • Do your self-exams
  • Get mammograms
  • Most importantly chose a doctor you trust and feel comfortable with
Follow us on Twitter for the drive updates, tweetups, blogs, photos and video.
What is your current challenge at work? How is the event going this year?
Challenging to say the least. Four weeks before our event I learned all of our participant cars were not arriving as scheduled. This cascaded into loosing some of our sponsors. I wouldn’t go into the point about a phone call, don’t burn your bridges with sponsors.
So I pulled myself up by my bootstraps and started making calls.
We had to start over, well almost. I know there is a HERO or an ANGEL out there on their way to help they just got caught in traffic.

As a woman what features are your favorites in a car?
Performance, comfort, handling, even how a car sounds.
I grew up lusting for performance. My first car a 1973 Dodge Dart had 340 horsepower I got my first ticke and first accident in that car. It was built like a tank. It was a boy magnet especially when I would smoke the tires. My life lesson was that women with power win, in Drive Breast Cancer event, drive for knowledge.

Why does the auto industry seem like a difficult environment for females?
Automotive business started by men, men ran car companies. After WWII men needed work, economy was booming and service men were schooled in organizational structures that worked…for wars. This structure worked for many years, it also brought to market ‘cars for women’, without truly understanding that women have different concept of car features. Thankfully car companies have discovered one important fact: about 86% of buying decisions for all consumer goods are made by woman, they just let the men write the check (JK). Women are key to a successful automotive industry.
Why do you work in the auto industry?
I have always been fascinated by cars I wanted to be a race-car driver, I wasn’t the best, but what a thrill to be in a race. Today I do race and love every minute.
I was on a quest to learn everything about cars. I was licensed by Department of Transportation (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) as a New USA Automotive Manufactures; meaning I could build cars affix VIN numbers and was the only women that held that license. I owned and operated a dealership and service facility, then decided to go back to driving. . Honestly can say writing about cars for women is my dream job.
What was your first automotive job?
My driveway with my dad when we rebuilt my ’73 Dodge Dart Sport’s motor, I cracked the engine block. I also learned what a low oil warning light means. Fairly certain my neighbors were not as happy about this learning experience as I was.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
Creating the “Drive Breast Cancer Awareness” event, being honored as one of the “Most Influencial Women in Automotive” by Inforum Automotive Next and of course interviewing some of the most important women in automotive and social media along the way.
Dream job?
I have it cars, and meeting the most amazing women along the way. I find the experience being very rewarding to teach someone something about cars and see their eyes light.

What sports or activities did you enjoy in school or/and currently?
I spent spare time working with my church. I also love playing basketball. In high school was told I wasn’t pretty enough to be a cheerleader, but could be on the basketball team. I wasn’t very good at basketball so our team didn’t win much, but boy did I have fun, I didn’t care if I was good I loved being part of a team.
What you do to relax?
Put my feet up, relax and spend time at home with my husband, my dogs Betty and Princess and texting my daughter photos (who’s away getting her Masters Degree in advertising).

Who have you mentored, or/and did someone mentor you in this industry to help you get started?
My mission is to mentor as many women about automotive as I can.
I can list off the top of my head some amazing people that have helped me along the way in automotive; Anne Belec, Dan Johnston, Chris Barman and most recently Ann Tran best social media adviser to have she is amazing!
Personally I help everyone that will let me; recently received a nice thank you note from Jim Hamel who I have mentored for a few years.
I believe what I’m doing with “Drive Breast Cancer Awareness” is a mentoring job to anyone who will listen.

Carmel By the Sea - Why not ME ????

RANS-AM LEGENDS STAR ON THE AVENUES OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, CA.

Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, August 27, 2012

.

On Tuesday, August 14, 2012, the avenues of the picturesque seaside town of Carmel-by-the-

Sea reverberated with the roar of powerful engines, as an unparalleled group of historic racing

cars from the legendary Trans-Am Series drove into the display area of the 2012 Carmel-by-the-

Sea Concours on the Avenue. The sixteen cars, accompanied by a California Highway Patrol

escort, represented most of the teams and brands that competed in the classic era of the series

from 1966 to 1972.

The Trans-Am cars were just one of the highlights of the 6
th edition of the Concours on the

Avenue, which has quickly established itself as a must-
do event in the crowded “Monterey

Week” calendar
, noted for its welcoming and inclusive atmosphere and extraordinary vehicles.

Thousands of spectator guests and local residents enjoyed almost 200 entries this year, arrayed

on the tree-lined avenues of the charming village. The Concours on the Avenue marked the

passing of Carroll Shelby with a brilliant class of thirteen genuine Cobras, spanning the full

range of models from the
289’s to the 427’s.

Michael G. Tillson, Chief Judge at the event,
stated “2012 has been, without a doubt, the best

year ever for the Concours on the Avenue- the Trans Am class was over
the top.” He went on to

praise the talents of the more than 50
judges who serve at the Concours. “Their knowledge is

astonishing, and they get it right and do it on time, with very tough choices in the class awards.”

There was, however, apparently no challenge for the judges in their unanimous choice for Best

in Show;
Larry and Juana Carter’s stunning dark blue 1967 Ferrari 275 GTS/4 ‘NART’ Spyder. It

was the epitome of the guiding principle of the Concours on the Avenue-
‘Authenticity and

Originality Ma
tter’. While the Ferrari was judged best of the best, it was emblematic of the

depth of quality in the display. Fifteen major awards, provided by sponsor Tiffany & Co and

presented by the announcing team of Ed Justice, Jr., Michael T. Lynch and Donald Osborne,

went to cars as varied as a rare Lloyd 2-cylinder van done in period PanAm airlines livery, to a

beautiful Ferrari 250 GTL Lusso and the Duesenberg-
powered ‘Wonder Bread Special’ 1934

Indy Car.

The show is especially appealing to family audiences, thanks to its location in the heart of

vibrant Carmel-by-the-Sea. It is an event in which the entire town shares, with many of the

shops, galleries and restaurants also participating in the show with imaginative automotiverelated

window displays. Some of th
e vignettes also competed for prizes in the ‘Concours in the

Windows’ contest.
Tillson summed up his experience at this year’s event by saying, “The

directors and volunteers d
o a heroic job to put this magical show on each year and I couldn’t be

prouder to
be associated with this event.”

With the spectacular background of the historic village, The Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours on the

Avenue delivers ‘Sophistication with a dash of fun’ to both the hard core motoring enthusiast as

well as the rest of the family. Guided by the principle
‘Authenticity and Originality Matter’, it

gathers together the finest examples of a wide variety of vintage and historic sports, GT, racing,

luxury and family vehicles, and displays them on the avenues of Carmel-by-the-Sea in a unique

show which is open at no cost to spectator guests. A major beneficiary of the Concours on the

Avenue is The Carmel Foundation, in support of the work the Foundation does for the senior

community of the Monterey Peninsula.

Lexus I love your Grille Work

I Like Your Grille Lexus....

By: Cathy Droz
It seemed perfect for Lexus to have its press junket in Dallas, Texas this past week .The unveiling of the new ES350 and ES300h ( hybrid) complete with its new hour-glass (spindle) grille for all to see its shapely new form, front and center. As if the return of Southfork, on the television series DALLAS, wasn’t enough for the Lone Star State, I even spotted Jerry Jones in the Ritz Carlton lounge. I say that with such conviction, yet I recall asking “who is he?”
I could go in to all the history of Lexus, with the first models of the ES back in the day, but that would be much like bringing up the old series of Dallas; when you wondered who shot JR? Let’s move forward to the Lexus 2013 ES series that I was able to test drive all over Dallas, Texas.
The new ES models have some changes worth noting both inside and out. On the outside, as I mentioned, the new spindle grille stands out which will be standard on all Lexus models. You will notice the grilles are edged by wide headlamps; a dramatic new look that truly compliments the spindle shape.
Now for the rear, the ES350 accentuates dual exhausts, which will totally separate and distinguish itself from the 300h. There is a spoiler on the hybrid but not the ES350, which will help in separating them as well. I figure the hybrid needs every bit of aerodynamic configuration to get the drag ratio it needs. It will also give you the gas mileage which is estimated at 40 miles-per-gallon. There is a metal hydride battery pack between the rear seats and trunk. Unlike the gasoline driven ES350, the hybrid has the electric mode which operates for short distances. I can’t help but think that Lexus is the most advanced or at least the most daring and forward thinking with luxury hybrids. The company that offered the Toyota Prius to the world just keeps adding an “h” to its models and improving technology.
The ES350 sedan and the ES300h were my chariots for four hours as I took them through their paces both on the local streets and busy freeways of Dallas. I was impressed with the longer wheelbase as it added four inches of legroom in the second row of seats for both ES models. Not that I needed it at 5’2, but many of the male journalists are over 6 feet. Oh! This was cool, the front seats have larger side bolsters and I could actually feel the difference; much like I was getting a hug or soccer save when turning the corner. The chilled seats? Fantastic! On top of all of this, drivers can program the key fobs to remember seat and mirror position as well as climate control.
Lexus uses a mouse control unit for navigation and other functions. There is an optional Lexus Enform so that the driver can pair his smart phone with the vehicles to use apps like Bing, Open Table, Movie Tickets.com, Pandora and Yelp. (so much fun to play with). Of course Satellite radio and my favorite; a larger navigation screen which I find to be just the right size for my eyes at my young age.
The second row of seats don’t fold flat, but a pass-through on the GS350 gives enough cargo space for sports equipment and trips to Home Depot. The 350 can fit the things I need daily and even on the weekends with carting the grandkids things. The ES300h doesn’t have as much room, but you save so much money on gas, you can have your luggage or sports paraphernalia shipped ahead.
Both of the new ES models for Lexus were a pleasure to drive and be a passenger. The pricing for these vehicles has not yet been released, but I figure the mid $30,000. An excellent value in this luxury category.
I enjoyed taking photos while test driving in Dallas. I enjoyed dinner at Fearling’s Restaurant and meeting Chef Fearling. I enjoyed all of the sights as we traveled through Dallas testing the ES vehicles. Here are some of the places we passed while enjoying the luxury ride of Lexus. Turtle Creek, Highland Park, Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, Trinity River, Pioneer Plaza, Dallas City Hall, School Book Depository where Kennedy was assassinated, Dallas Museum of Art and Baylor Hospital to name a few. Just like the new TV series Dallas, the Lexus ES series just gets better and better with time.

ARIZONA PUPPET THEATER

PUPPET THEATER - BIG HIT THIS SUMMER

Do you think producing puppet shows is a lost art? Think again – for over 29 years the Great Arizona Puppet Theater has been entertaining their audiences of all ages with traditional and original shows. In fact, they have produced over 50 shows, countless workshops, school visits, and even ‘adults-only’ shows. We took our two oldest grandkiddos, aged 6 & 7, and they had a blast. The show we saw was “Old MacDonald” and they loved every minute of this hilarious ‘sing-along’ romp through the barnyard! Be sure to check the website below for their schedule of upcoming shows.
The theater is housed in the historic former Phoenix 2nd Ward Mormon Church building, which admittedly didn’t impress our grandchildren as much as it did us. A gorgeous Spanish-inspired chapel, this priceless building was purchased by the GAPT in 1996. Constructed in 1929, the building was sold to ADOT in 1972 for I-10 right-of-way, but it was saved by being designated as a historic site and the path of the I-10 was re-directed. Whew! The Phoenix Arts Council used this facility prior to GAPT’s purchase. Repaired and restored to its original splendor, we are fortunate to have access to this piece of Phoenix’s past.
We joined in the backstage tour to learn all about the theater, building, and the art of puppetry. The kids even made their own paper-bag puppets to take home. Over the years they have earned the New times Best of Phoenix award six times. For school groups, home schoolers, and curious theater-goers they even offer study guides for many of their shows. Your little ones are sure to enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience, and we left there wishing we were still kids so we could sit on the floor up front!

WELCOME AZ FLYGIRLS

Cathy Droz and Cathy Burford join Sister's on the Fly

Adventure Excitement Fly Fishing?

murano-trailer-for-graphics-010
The year 2012 is the year of “let’s try it” and never saying ” I should have or I could have”. The two Cathy’s… Droz and Burford joined an organization called Sister’s on the Fly. This is a group of “women only” that swears “we have more fun than anyone.”
murano-trailer-for-graphics-009
You can join the group and travel by car, plane, RV or “travel trailer” to experience adventures in fishing and horseback riding all over the country. Since both Cathy’s experience in riding and fly fishing are limited they chose fly fishing to focus on right now. Cathy Burford has experience as a kid growing up in California with a Dad who was a true outdoor enthusiast. Droz growing up in New York City went on pony rides at the park as a kid and fishing was something she thought was a card game “go fish”. They also decided to try their hands at refurbishing a vintage travel trailer. WEDDING CRASHERS... DODGE AVENGER

How to get your New York accent back in four days....
By: Cathy Droz
2012 Dodge Avenger SXT plus
I love my job! Not only do I get to test drive cars here in Arizona, but when I’m out of town usually a manufacturer provides me with a car for the length of my trip. I was so fortunate to land at Newark Airport in New Jersey and find a 2012 Dodge Avenger SXT plus waiting for me. It was red, masculine looking and especially spacious for our luggage. Just looking at it with the spoiler on the rear and the l8-inch wheels, I knew this was going to be a fun week.
If you’ve ever travelled on the roads in New York or New Jersey you know they tend to be a bit bumpy and result in a wheel alignment every two weeks. Nothing has changed back east, but the Avenger handled the roads with agility and grace, making the drive tolerable.
The Avenger SXT Plus had a few extras over and above the other Avenger models, and even over the SXT such as dual exhaust with chrome tips, automatic headlamps, projector fog lamps, rear spoiler and red accent seat inserts and stitching throughout ( very sharp).
Now you have the basics, let’s get to the trip where this machine performed wonders. We arrived during commuter time, so our trip from the airport to the hotel took over an hour and a half (it was 20 minutes away). Many memories were brought back with the sound of horns beeping and people cutting off other people; just to move 5 inches. We ate dinner at a nice New Jersey deli across the street from the hotel when I realized I had lost my New York accent. A man saw us walk in and asked if that red car out there was a Dawdge? I said yes and said to myself “I’m back”.
The next day some of my family arrived which required me to install two children’s safety seats in the rear of the Avenger, as they always want to be in the car with Grandma and Grandpa. The safety latch system was flawless and very easily the two seats were secured. My daughter and I and the two babies were going out for an hour to show the kids what green trees looked like. We weren’t gone ten minutes when the mother of the bride called and said that they had forgotten the pillow for the ring bearer. She was wondering if I might pick one up while on the road. We said sure and proceeded to pull over and use the Navigation system to locate a bridal shop or some kind of party city. Since we didn’t know the area at all, we put our complete trust in to the Avenger’s nav system and the bossy voice of the GPS goddess. I say bossy because I seemed to miss my exits often on the unfamiliar roads so I kept hearing “make a U turn”. We found a pillow, preceded to the wedding and although the rain came down just at the kiss, it was a glorious time had by all.
Next day was the family going to New York City for a six hour whirlwind. We packed in the Avenger three adults and two children in car seats comfortably. The cargo area was filled with double stroller, two diaper bags, cooler, camera equipment and change of clothes. We couldn’t believe the double stroller fit perfectly with no fussing. Manhattan was a mad house so we parked in an underground lot and spent the day touring NYC. Our trip back to the hotel was uneventful (thank goodness) then on to bed.
As we said goodbye to the kids, we proceeded on to our friend’s home in New Jersey. Now is when we played around with the heated folding mirrors and the 60/40 split folding rear seat and tested the heated and chilled seats. That is also where we realized we were getting about 27 miles to the gallon. It seemed at every turn my husband would say, this is a great car!
At the end of 7 days we returned the car to the Newark, Airport. We unloaded our luggage, handed the keys to the attendant and in a casual voice I said “goodbye” to the car. Wow! In all the years I’ve been testing cars, I don’t remember saying goodbye to one, like an old friend, but I did. The Avenger is a 4-door sedan with appeal to all ages and lifestyles. I believe that people should consider an Avenger and test drive one. I know that I look forward to driving one in Phoenix, but this time to a football game, not a wedding.

2013 Lexus ES350 and ES300h ... Read This

Lexus... I like your Grille!

Check out the ES300 Models and Dallas Texas
