RED MEANS STOP..... REALLY !!!!!!!

Two for the Road USA are supporters of Driving MBA who works so hard to bring awareness to Red Means Stop.  They have a fantastic school for teens and adults to "learn" how to drive and stay alive.....

Red Means Stop
By Frank Hinds, Executive Director
Jennifer HindsThis will be our fifteenth Christmas without Jennifer. It's really hard to believe nearly fifteen years have gone by since that awful day in March when our safe, normal family experienced the worst fate imaginable - the death of a child.
I remember that day like it was yesterday. Even though the events happened a long time ago, I replay them over and over again in my mind on a fairly regular basis, with the same clarity. The people, the conversations, the disbelief.
No amount of time will repair the hole in my heart or ease the sadness I feel when I remember the child she was or think of the adult she could have been.
I know our family doesn't have a corner on the market for grief due to tragic red light running crashes; hundreds of families face a similar fate every year throughout our country. The real tragedy is that these deaths are preventable and families shouldn't have to suffer.
Responsible driving behavior continues to be ignored and innocent people are dying on our roadways because of it. We all need to focus our attention in the coming year to reducing the causes of red light running - reminding drivers of the serious and deadly consequences of their actions. Get involved; help the victims and volunteers of Red Means Stop achieve our goals. Contact us at (480)305-7900 or on the web at www.redmeansstop.org

SEMA Show featuring Katzkin Corsa 500 Concept

KATZKIN CORSA 500 CONCEPT TO BE REVEALED AT 2011 SEMA SHOW
Hip Vehicle Showcases Katzin’s Leadership Position Within Expressive Design and Interior Transformation

MONTEBELLO, Calif., October 28, 2011 – With a keen focus on advanced interior design, Katzkin Leather will be moving beyond just the sketches it creates to showcase its own branded concept vehicle, as it reveals the “Katzkin Corsa 500” at the 2011 SEMA Show, beginning next week in Las Vegas. As the first branded concept car Katzkin has created and shown in its 24 years at the SEMA show, the company is taking a stance to highlight its leadership position within expressive design and interior transformation. Katzkin is the global leader in automotive leather interiors, with a network that generates more than $100 million in annual revenues from the sales of Katzkin leather products, and has risen to surpass the competition in its 28 years of business.

Using the newly-introduced Fiat 500 as a base, the Katzkin “Corsa” 500 was named for its Italian heritage and literally refers to “racing.” The concept vehicle sports a totally transformed interior which takes the already hip and cool Fiat 500, and elevates the interior design to an even more energetic version with a higher regard for personality.

According to David O’Connell, Chief Designer for Katzkin, the Fiat 500 already makes a unique and individual statement on its own. However, O’Connell claims “this interior transformation builds on that momentum and amplifies the character with bold graphics and contrasting colors.” O’Connell noted that the beautiful, rich, white leather creates a stark contrast to the black trimmed interior, visually highlighting the seating areas. In addition, a feeling of increased interior space is achieved through the blue and black suede vertical stripes which visually lengthen the seats.

As a company, Katzkin to date has outfitted more than one million vehicles with its leather interiors, and is providing more than 3,000 patterns of handcrafted leather choices to its nationwide network of new vehicle dealers and restylers. As the company enters its 28th year of business, with a long string of successes under its belt, OEM’s such as Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and now Fiat, are now initiating exclusive partnerships and affording Katzkin an expanded credibility factor in the area of non-factory-provided automotive leather interiors.

About Katzkin Leather, Inc.
Founded in 1983 by Mitchell Katz, Katzkin Leather, Inc., of Montebello, Calif. is the leading manufacturer of custom leather interiors. With a nationwide installer base featuring over 2,500 restyling locations, Katzkin has created more than one million exciting vehicle interiors in the past 28 years. Katzkin maintains more than 3,000 interior patterns, 135 colors and materials, and more custom options than any other interior manufacturer. How Chevy Got It's Bow Tie ???????

You may have heard the story before, but Bill and I want to share with you how Chevy got it's Bow Tie.
We review a lot of Chevrolet's so we never get tired of the story.  For more of our reveiws go to

History with a Mystery: The Chevrolet Bowtie

DETROIT – Globally recognized today, the Chevrolet bowtie logo was introduced by company co-founder William C. Durant in late 1913. But how it came to be synonymous with the brand is open to wide interpretation.

Durant’s version of how the logo came into existence is well known. The long-accepted story, confirmed by Durant himself, was that it was inspired by the wallpaper design in a Parisian hotel.According to The Chevrolet Story of 1961, an official company publication issued in celebration of Chevrolet's 50th anniversary:

“It originated in Durant's imagination when, as a world traveler in 1908, he saw the pattern marching off into infinity as a design on wallpaper in a French hotel. He tore off a piece of the wallpaper and kept it to show friends, with the thought that it would make a good nameplate for a car.”

However, conflicting accounts have emerged, each of which is plausible enough to deepen the mystery and suggest it may never be solved. Two of the alternate origins come from within the Durant family itself.

In 1929, Durant's daughter, Margery, published a book entitled, My Father. In it, she told how Durant sometimes doodled nameplate designs on pieces of paper at the dinner table. “I think it was between the soup and the fried chicken one night that he sketched out the design that is used on the Chevrolet car to this day,” she wrote. More than half a century later, another Bowtie origin was recounted in a 1986 issue of Chevrolet Pro Management Magazine based on a 13-year-old interview with Durant's widow, Catherine. She recalled how she and her husband were on holiday in Hot Springs, Va., in 1912. While reading a newspaper in their hotel room, Durant spotted a design and exclaimed, “I think this would be a very good emblem for the Chevrolet.” Unfortunately, at the time, Mrs. Durant didn't clarify what the motif was or how it was used.
That nugget of information inspired Ken Kaufmann, historian and editor of The Chevrolet Review, to search out its validity. In a Nov. 12, 1911 edition of The Constitution newspaper, published in Atlanta, an advertisement appeared from by the Southern Compressed Coal Company for “Coalettes,” a refined fuel product for fires. The Coalettes logo, as published in the ad, had a slanted bowtie form, very similar to the shape that would soon become the Chevrolet icon. Did Durant and his wife see the same ad – or one similar – the following year a few states to the north? The date of the paper was just nine days after the incorporation of the Chevrolet Motor Co.

One other explanation attributes the design to a stylized version of the cross of the Swiss flag. Louis Chevrolet was born in Switzerland at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Canton of Neuchâtel, to French parents, on Christmas Day 1878.

Whichever origin is true, within a few years, the bowtie would emerge as the definitive Chevrolet logo. An October 2, 1913 edition of The Washington Post seems, so far, to be the earliest known example of the symbol being used to advertise the brand. “Look for this nameplate” the ad proclaims above the emblem. Customers the world over have been doing so ever since.

Many variations in coloring and detail of the Chevrolet bowtie have come and gone over the decades since its introduction in late 1913, but the essential shape has never changed. In 2004, Chevrolet began to phase in the gold bowtie that today serves as the brand identity for all of its cars and trucks marketed globally. The move reinforced the strength of what was already one of the most-recognized automotive emblems in the world. More than 4.25 million Chevrolets were sold in more than 120 countries and regions during 2010.

About Chevrolet -- Founded in Detroit in 1911, Chevrolet celebrates its centennial as a global automotive brand with annual sales of about 4.25 million vehicles in more than 120 countries. Chevrolet provides consumers with fuel-efficient, safe and reliable vehicles that deliver high quality, expressive design, spirited performance and value. The Chevrolet portfolio includes iconic performance cars such as Corvette and Camaro; dependable, long-lasting pickups and SUVs such as Silverado and Suburban; and award-winning passenger cars and crossovers such as Spark, Cruze, Malibu, Equinox and Traverse. Chevrolet also offers “gas-friendly to gas-free" solutions including Cruze Eco and Volt. Cruze Eco offers 42 mpg highway while Volt offers 35 miles of electric, gasoline-free driving and an additional 344 miles of extended range. Most new Chevrolet models offer OnStar safety, security and convenience technologies including OnStar Hands-Free Calling, Automatic Crash Response and Stolen Vehicle Slowdown. Phoenix Victims Revered with V.O.C. Bracelets
Silent Witness Introduces Victims of Crime Bracelet at Annual Golf Tournament

September 19, 2011 (Phoenix, AZ) – The non-profit crime fighting organization Silent Witness launches Victims Of Crime Bracelets on September 26, 2011 at the Silent Witness Annual CATCH A CROOK Golf Tournament. The V.O.C. Bracelets are a public awareness and memorial announcement to four Arizonan’s that lost their life during the commission of a felony. Each V.O.C. Bracelet has the name of one of the four victims and the Silent Witness contact information etched into it as a virtual vigil and keepsake of the victim and the assistance available from Silent Witness.

Each bracelet is sold for $25.00 and all proceeds go to the general fund of Silent Witness

Kyleigh Sousa – 21 year old female ASU student murdered in June 2010, case solved.
Lynsey Chainhalt - 20 year old female murdered June 2003 remains unsolved.
"Path" Van Leeuwen – 78 year old woman died June 2008 remains unsolved.
Edward Forst – murdered June 2007 on West McDowell Rd., remains unsolved.

During the 1970's people wore POW bracelets in an active support of the military during the war. Supporters wore them 24hrs a day in hopes that their person would be returned to freedom safely. Silent Witness Board member Cathy Droz was inspired by the eternal vigil the bracelets represented in the ‘70s and recreated the sentiment with V.O.C. Bracelets. “I remember wearing that bracelet everyday to remind me of the families who had a loved one missing. My soldier became a part of my family and prayers,” Droz said.

The V.O.C. Bracelets are available online at www.silentwitness.org effective Monday September 26, 2011 in conjunction with the annual fundraiser. For more information on the golf tournament or other ways to help Silent Witness, go to www.silentwitness.org.

GRANDPARENTS ARE BETTER DRIVERS - Yes or No

Are Grandparents better drivers?

ST. PETERSBURG - Kids may be safest in cars driven by their grandparents rather than their parents, much to the surprise of researchers at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

"The injury rate was considerably lower," said Dr. Fred Henriteg. He oversaw the review accidents involving nearly 12,000 children in 15 states and concluded children's risk of injury was 50 percent lower when riding with a grandparent.

That finding surprised Dr. Henriteg because statistically, older drivers are involved in more accidents.

However, the findings do not surprise many parents and grandparents.

"Because of age and maturity," Roz Hurst theorized. "You know, life experience."

Another grandmother, Barbara Stacy, says other things may be competing for parents' attention.

"With the cell phones and everything, a lot of the younger parents I think are on the phone, distracted," Stacy said.

Shiela Marable has a 1-year-old daughter and thinks her parents are extra cautious about everything.

"It's not their child, so they have to be extra careful with the child," she said.

Jason Yaber admits he speeds and suspects his parents do not.
"They're not in a rush to get anywhere," Yaber said. "I'm in a rush all of the time."

The study did not determine why the risk of injury is lower with grandparents behind the wheel, but it did note the age of the driver made little difference in the nature of injuries children sustain in the event of a crash.

Liberty Buick - True Story

A friend of mine was tellling me about the wonderful experience she had purchasing her new Lacrosse at Liberty Buick.  However, when she brought it back for service ( the radio wasn't working) she felt she
didn't get the kind of customer service she had at the purchase and was upset.

She wrote me a letter about what had happened which I forwarded to Liberty Buick in Peoria, Arizona.  The General Manager decided that she and the Director of the Service Department were going to make things right.  Boy did they ever!

The next letter I got from my friend was all about how wonderful the Service Director is and how pleased she is with Liberty Buick. How they fixed the problem and called daily and made sure she was totally satisfied.

That brings me to my point.  Car dealerships can make mistakes... people are human.  Rather than
be dissatisified and possibly bad mouth a dealership for an isolated instance please take the time to
document your experience, put it in written form and present to the General Manager or General Sales Manager.  Most times your problems will be fixed and you will spread the good word to family and friends.

LYON AIR MUSEUM TO HOST EXHIBIT OF RAREST DUESENBERG

LUXURY CARS JULY 9-24, 2011
FROM THE COLLECTION OF GENERAL WILLIAM LYON

Two for the Road USA - Phoenix, Arizona      PRESS RELEASE

SANTA ANA, Calif., July 9, 2011—Lyon Air Museum, a premier Southern California showcase for vintage military aircraft and automobiles, will host an exhibit of ten quintessential Duesenberg automobiles from the collection of General William Lyon. The exhibit of some of the largest, most stylish and beautiful cars ever created will be held July 9-24, 2011, at the facility, located on the west side of the runway at John Wayne Airport in Orange County.

“The Duesenberg represents an innovative melding of American elegance, engineering and extravagance,” said Mark Foster, president of Lyon Air Museum. “General Lyon has preserved a great American legacy and with this exhibit he wants to share with visitors to his Museum the unique experience of seeing some of these grand automobiles up close.”

Included in the cars on display will be examples of the legendary Duesenberg Model J series, most notable for their fine design, rich colors, imposing grille, headlights, side-mounted spare tire, hood and fenders:

• 1929 Duesenberg Model J LeBaron Dual Cowl Phaeton—With coachwork by LeBaron, this automobile, Chassis No. 2125, Engine No. J101, is the First Model J Duesenberg. An irreplaceable piece of American automotive history, it first served as a factory demonstrator car.

• 1929 Duesenberg Model J Murphy Dual Cowl Phaeton—Coachwork by Walter M. Murphy Company. First owned by John J. McCarthy, the president of the Cracker Jack Company, this Duesenberg—finished in blue with dark blue fenders and brown leather interior—-made its first public appearance in the 1930s when it transported the Grand Marshal in the Rose Parade. It was later owned by American collector William F. Harrah, who lent it to Columbia/Tristar for its role in the 1982 movie “Annie,” in which the 265hp Duesenberg "straight eight" was used to chase down the bad guys and save Annie.

• 1929 Duesenberg Model J LeBaron Phaeton—Coachwork by LeBaron. This one-off phaeton with radically shaped doors and sculpted lowered door edges had numerous owners over the years, including Los Angeles Times publisher Otis Chandler, who purchased the vehicle in 1999.

• 1930 Duesenberg Model J Murphy Speedster—Originally called a “disappearing top torpedo convertible coupe,” this classic won First in Place and Reserve Best in Show at the famed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

• 1931 Duesenberg Model J Weymann “Taper Tail” Speedster—Originally owned by Walter Varney, a businessman and pilot from San Francisco who started commercial aviation as we know it. His fledgling air service later became United Airlines.

• 1931 Duesenberg SJ Murphy Convertible Coupe—This “disappearing top” was originally built for Sid Smith, a cartoonist for the famous “Andy Gump” comic strip.

• 1931 Duesenberg Model J Fernandez and Darrin Convertible Victorian—Originally owned by an Indian prince, this car later returned to Paris where it entered into a chain of new ownership.

• 1932 Duesenberg SJ Murphy Town Car—Originally owned by Dolores del Rio, Latina bombshell actress and star of Hollywood films during the silent era and during the Golden Age of Hollywood. The Oscar-nominated del Rio, seeking a new car commensurate with her status, chose this one-of-a-kind Duesenberg with coachwork by Pasadena's own coachbuilder-to-the-stars, Walter M. Murphy.

• 1934 Duesenberg Model J Walker-La Grande Convertible Coupe—Coachwork by A.H. Walker Company. Originally sold new to Dr. Frederick Gruneck of Chicago, Ill. The founder of Northridge Hospital Medical Center in Southern California, Gruneck traded a Murphy-bodied Duesenberg convertible coupe for it.

• 1935 Duesenberg SJ Gurney Nutting Speedster—Chassis No. 2614 is the highest serial number Duesenberg. The car was built for the Maharaja of Indore in London. It was supposed to be delivered to India, but after Japan invaded China, there was fear that the country might also invade India—so many wealthy Indians fled their homes. The Maharaja eventually took delivery of this car at his mansion in Santa Ana, Calif. The car disappeared and was considered lost until its rediscovery in 1959. Eventually, it was acquired by General Lyon.

With its distinctive appearance and powerful engine, the Duesenberg automobile was the embodiment of luxury and lavish detail in the first half of the twentieth century. The cars were custom-built by E.L. Cord and Fred Duesenberg during an era when America’s love affair with the automobile was in its infancy.

Duesenberg (often nicknamed "Duesy") was an Indianapolis, Indiana-based luxury automobile company most renowned for its high-quality passenger cars and record-breaking racing cars.

Duesenberg cars were considered some of the very best cars of the time, and were built entirely by hand. In 1914, Eddie Rickenbacker drove a "Duesy" to finish in 10th place at the Indianapolis 500, and a Duesenberg won the race in 1924, 1925 and 1927. The company ceased production in 1937, but during its lifetime Duesenberg passenger cars were proudly owned by some of the wealthiest and most famous people the world over.

It is estimated that 378 of the 481 originally manufactured Duesenbergs are still on the road today.

The 30,000-sq.ft. Lyon Air Museum opened in Dec. 2009. The facility represents the fulfillment of a dream of Major General William Lyon, USAF (Ret), who held the position of Chief of the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1975 to 1979. Currently, General Lyon is Chairman of the Board and CEO of William Lyon Homes, Inc., Newport Beach, Calif. His passion for aviation history and youth education is the driving force behind Lyon Air Museum. In establishing the Museum, General Lyon sought to create a world-class facility that would be available to the local community and would offer educational exhibits designed to inspire young people. The Museum has on exhibit some of the world’s rarest operational aircraft and vehicles.

Lyon Air Museum is located at 19300 Ike Jones Road, Santa Ana, CA 92707. P: 714/210-4585. F: 714/210-4588. Email: info@lyonairmuseum.org. Web: www.lyonairmuseum.org.

Two for the Road USA Review 2011 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid for Green Living Magazine

As Seen in Green Living Magazine
Scottsdale, Arizona - August 2011
By:  Bill Zervakos and Cathy Droz

IF IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR KERMIT THE FROG...

Little did Kermit the frog know that the color of his skin would become a buzz word for products, services and new businesses everywhere? In the automotive industry especially; hybrids are quickly becoming the fashionable vehicle to own. It appears everyone wants to align themselves with green ethics and save the earth. However, we have also grown accustomed to all the space and versatility SUV’s give us. Some lifestyles and hobbies simply aren’t a good match for a tiny hybrid, so why not go green and satisfy your need for space and power with a hybrid SUV?

We’ve chosen the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. This Hybrid was introduced in 2008 and it combines an all purpose, full-size, four-door, family-oriented SUV with the substantial increase in fuel economy so typical of a hybrid vehicle. The Chevy Tahoe is available in 2WD and 4WD models. General Motors’ 2-mode hybrid system conserves energy by using an electrically variable transmission, a 300-volt storage system and a 332-hp 6.0L Vortec V8 engine with active fuel management. The Tahoe Hybrid is able to accelerate using only the electric motor. Chevy added to its efficiency by having the liftgate and hood made of aluminum, thus improving aerodynamics. To complete the package, low-rolling resistance tires and a 0.4-inch lower ride height were added.
For a family SUV, you can’t beat the fact that the Tahoe seats up to eight passengers and can tow up to 6200 pounds with the 2WD model and up to 5900 pounds with the 4WD model. Don’t worry about giving up safety with this lighter SUV as dual stage front airbags, side curtain airbags, four wheel anti lock brakes, stabilitrak stability control system with rollover mitigation, tire pressure monitoring system and OnStar are all standard.

If you are considering buying and driving a hybrid SUV, here are a few of the advantages:

People Moving – You can fit up to 9 people in a SUV. Instead of taking two vehicles, just pile everyone in your hybrid SUV. Save on gas and one less car to pollute the environment.

Means of Transport - Whether it’s a trip to Home Depot for some solar panels, taking you’re first born to college with all his gear, or food shopping for six with your cloth bags, the space of a Hybrid SUV is the same as non-hybrid. The difference is in fuel cost and the footprint on mother earth.

Pulling Passions - No need to give up camping, boating or snowmobiling because you can’t tow it behind a Prius. A Hybrid SUV can get 20-50% better fuel economy than your average SUV and you can fit everything and everyone in it.A Hybrid SUV, what a concept?

You don’t have to give up anything except all the trips to the gas station and unlike Kermit the frog’s theme song; “It isn’t easy being green,” the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid doesn’t seem to have a problem at all.

TRANSFORMER MOVIE EDITION OF THE CAMARO COMING....

2012 Chevy Camaro Transformers Edition Announced

One reason the new Chevrolet Camaro is so popular among children and adults alike is the car’s starring role in the first two Transformers movies. Chevrolet is well aware of this, and they’ve just announced a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Special Edition to correspond with this week’s release of the latest Transformers film...

Not a Camaro but I just love Mario Andretti.....

DON'T LOOSE YOUR PET THIS SUMMER

ID YOUR PET (and keep these links for future reference)!

Word to the wise... Courtesy of Second Home Pet Boarding in Moon Valley - Phoenix

Lady, Slim and Doc all have tags and microchip

Have you ever found a pet and not known what to do? Or even worse, lost one and were unsure where to begin your search? There are so many resources available; we'd like to help you know how to reach a happy ending for both you and the misplaced pet! Before you find yourself missing a beloved pet, your first safeguard is to keep a collar with tags (with up-to-date contact information) on your dog at all times. Although your pet may dislike the collar at first, he will get used to it! A collar and current tag can ensure your pet finds his way home in case he does somehow get out.

A pet microchip is also a great back-up ID solution. Available at most veterinary clinics or animal shelters, costs of the chip and registration can range between $10-$75 depending on the provider. After having your pet chipped, you will need to register either online or by mail so your missing pet can be traced back to you. Also, if you later move or change your number, you will have to contact the microchip company with this information, which is easy to overlook! If these safeguards fail or you find a lost pet and don't know how to find her owner, there are numerous resources available to you:

One of the best pet "lost and found" websites is Pets911. Pets911 allows you to search by area, breed, and gender for lost pets and also report a stray pet you may have found. Other options available to you include looking on Craigslist under both the "Pets" and the "Lost and Found" sections, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, Petfinder, Arizona Humane Society, and PetHarbor. Also, some local newspapers will allow you to run free ads if you find a pet.

One of the most effective techniques is to put large-print fliers up at major cross streets wtihin a 2-mile radius of your home, or the area where you found the pet. Some communities have sign ordinance restrictions, so be sure to check first or take fliers down promptly. If you find a pet you can take her to the Arizona Humane Society or a nearby veterinary clinic to be scanned for a microchip. Most important, don't give up - many pets have been reunited with their families months, and even years, after they first went missing! We recommend that you use not one, but most or all of the suggestions above for the best results.

GRANDPARENTS ON THE GO..'CAMP GRANDMA'

Jayden learning to sew a straight stitch
"Camp Grandma"  ---- Spending one week with my six-year old granddaughter brought back such fond memories of summers home with my own children 30 some-odd years ago.  However, I don't remember being so patient and listening so intently.  I don't remember giving them choices of milks like chocolate and strawberry or even a hint of mocha.  I don't remember saying "that's ok" when something spilled or reading more than one book at night.  Did I really show my granddaughter to sew and iron this past week? Yes I did.
Making a Father's Day gift for her dad
We did group trips with Mrs. Burford and her grandchildren and we had some unexpected adventures that turned in to lessons.  There is much to tell and much to learn from this past week.  I hope to share it on this blog including the cars we traveled in.  Our adventures will be in Discover the Phoenix Region and Grandparents on the go.

   More to follow....

New Eyewear for Dogs.... Doggles

PET SAFETY IN CARS

More and more motorists are travelling with their pets. They deserve a safe trip just like our human passengers so here are some safety ideas

If you have a small dog ( less than 10 pounds) you should have your little princess in a cotton canvas carrier which will easily attach to any seat, allowing them to look out the window. This has a safety harness incorporated in to the carrier.

Doc in his harness
A travel harness for your bigger dog is a seatbelt by all accounts. It fits around the back of your dog’s front legs. You attach the harness to the auto seat tethers like the child safety seats. This also prevents them from jumping from back to front causing a distraction to the driver.

Dog Ramps for the more mature dogs or boomer dogs… the ramp allows your dog to enter and exit cars without having to leap, jump or wait for a lift. Some actually convert to floating devices for entry and exit to pools or boat docks.

How about dog goggles or “doggles”? Yes ! for pooches poking heads out the window in order to protect their eyes and they have l00% UV protection.

Pets need to stay safe too!

The 2011 Chevy Silverado Truck of all Trucks

A GRAND TRUCK

2011 Chevrolet Silverado
2500 4WD LTZ Crew Cab

By: Melanie Droz Boomer and X

Typically, not many would get excited when asked, “Can you help us move a Grand Piano?” However, when you are test-driving the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, your eager response is, “Sure, I would be happy to help!” So, that is exactly what we did. Matt and I jumped into the Silverado and headed over to my sister’s house to dispose of the old piano before picking up the Grand.

We knew we should relax in the Silverado on the way over, before the heavy lifting would begin. Who are we kidding? I would not be lifting anything at 8 months pregnant. However, the luxuries were hard to beat. The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4WD LTZ Crew Cab comes equipped with Bluetooth, OnStar, auto dual zone air conditioning, XM radio, Bose premium speaker system and bucket seats.

We kept cool and comfortable while jamming to upbeat music in order to pump us up for the move. Because we were so comfortable, we were nearly tempted to use the OnStar to find last-minute movers to take our place. With hands-free calling, we could have easily contacted our OnStar advisor who, based on our location, would have been able to provide us with nearby services. In the end, we (again, I mean my husband) decided to man up and meet the strength of the 2011 Chevy Silverado.

The Silverado has a 6.6L V8 turbo diesel engine and 6-speed automatic transmission, and the Silverado 2500 4WD comes with heavy duty trailering equipment, which means the Grand Piano was no match for this truck. It is comparable to a 200-pound man dragging a piece of string; that is how easy it was for this Chevy to transport the Grand. Because of the Silverado’s pure strength, Matt and I were inspired to start moving. I was so enthused; I carried the piano seat bench.

Anyone who has seen a Grand Piano knows the splendor of its looks. However, the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado matched up nicely carrying the sleek Grand. The steel green metallic exterior, chrome rear bumper and surround grille, and 20” aluminum wheels all added to the grandeur of the Silverado’s appearance. Driving around with both made us all look beautiful and strong.

For $57,199, the price of the Silverado we drove, which is just a tad more than the cost of a Grand Piano, we felt safe moving the precious black baby grand back to my sister’s house. With a 4-star government safety rating for rollover, 4-wheel ABS brakes, theft deterrent system, stabilitrak and a rear vision camera, the piano made it home in one piece. It was only when the guys moved it out of the truck was it in trouble. Even with the EZ lift tailgate, the men struggled with the weight of the piano. One big scratch was all my sister needed to demand their next purchase be the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4WD LTZ Crew Cab.

I would be happy to own either one… but since I don’t play any musical instruments but I love to drive… I think you know my choice.

2011 Nissan 370Z Touring

By: Bill Zervakos

The Nissan Z-car has a long and storied history of building exciting performance sports cars and the latest iteration is no exception. The test car was powered by the 332 horsepower V6 mated to a six-speed manual transmission which made for a lot of driving fun.

The 2011 370Z design remains unchanged from the updated in 2009 and shares several mechanicals from the Infiniti G Coupe including the potent 332 horsepower CVTCS engine. My only squawk with the power plant was the fact that it is a pretty high revving engine ergo a bit noisy under heavy load. A minor problem to be sure, but for an old big torque dinosaur like me, noticeable.

The lines -of the new Z-car are very sleek and muscular with hefty haunches that add to the aggressive stance. Once inside you know you’re in a sports car as the seats are deep and pretty comfortable. Touring models look even more high-class thanks to their leather upholstery and upgraded faux suede door inserts. The ergonomics are easy to figure out, but I have to admit that the seat controls being squished between my right thigh and the console leaves a little to be desired.

Driving the 370Z is definitely a thrill. The ride while taut is not overly harsh and if you’re not a fan of a firm riding vehicle, you’re probably looking at the wrong car. The 332 horsepower engine is very responsive and the car handles well and when zipping into turns. If you have to stop in a hurry, no worries, the available 4-piston front calipers haul the Z-car to a swift and secure stop in just over 100 feet from 60 miles per hour.

Bottom line, with the base price on the 370Z Touring starting at just over $36,000, the 370Z a great buy. It’s sexy looking relatively comfortable even for big boys. It performs very well, numbers range from 5.1 to 5.5 seconds getting from 0-60, and does so while getting an EPA rating of 19/26 with a combined average of 23 mpg with the standard transmission. If you haven’t driven a Z-car lately, maybe you should check out the 2011 370Z Touring Coupe. I think you’ll like it as much as I did.

2011 Infiniti G37 Coupe Journey

By Bill Zervakos

I have to start out by saying that I have no idea where the Journey moniker came from, it doesn't seem to fit the G-Coupe but there you have it, my tester was the Journey. That out of the way, the 2011 Infiniti G-Coupe receives a new front fascia design, and the exterior body kit includes more aggressive front and rear fascias, sculpted side sills, a rear spoiler and chrome exhaust outlets. It is without a doubt a very aggressive looking car and actually looks a lot like the Z-Car on steroids.

The G37 Journey comes with Nissan's Premium, Sport and Navigation packages. Standard equipment includes leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, 8-way power-adjustable front sport seats, keyless entry and starting, Bose audio system with 9.3-gigabyte Music Box hard drive, XM satellite radio, USB port, automatic bi-xenon headlights, sunroof, navigation system, rear-view camera, Bluetooth cell phone connectivity, universal garage door opener, limited-slip differential, performance brakes, fog lights and P225/45R19 front and P245/40R19 tires on unique alloy wheels. All which brought the price on the tester to a cool $46,975.00 including destination charges.
Inside the cockpit you'll find form fitting seats that seem to wrap around you as you settle in, they're well bolstered and supportive although just a tad tight for my aged derriere. The leather wrapped steering wheel is perfect for giving the driver a sense of control and the overall appearance is one of sporty luxury. Aluminum trim sets off the dashboard's look and the ergonomics are well thought out and easy to use.
Driving the G37 Coupe certainly highlights a rather large fun quotient, I actually took a run to California from Phoenix in my tester and was surprisingly comfortable on the five and a half hour drive. It was very solid on the road and while it may be splitting hairs, I feel the G-Coupe is more agile than nimble, but either way, it is fun to drive.
Bottom line, while coupes are not for everyone, they should offer performance and a bit of elan and  the Infinity G-Coupe offers a pretty fair amount of both with adequate room for adults up front and youngsters in the back without breaking the bank. So if you're in the market for something with a bit of an edge, you should check out the Infinity G37 Coupe, it may fit the bill perfectly.
