AZ Fly Girls spots Pink Panther Trailer

While in San Diego, walking in La Jolla, I spotted a large school bus painted in pink and themed Pink Panther.  The owner begged me to come inside to see her Pink accessories.  Outside was some pink props as well.  Cathy and I have only a l4 foot travel trailer and our theme will be
1960's Airline Decor.  I give this woman credit but too much pink for me.

Grandparents on the Go ... Discover the Phoenix Region Magazine

Grandparents might be at” Zumba” dancing to Hot! Hot! Hot! but for the grandkids we suggest you try “Jambo” where it’s cool, cool, cool.

It would be nice if we could all go to Disneyland or Legoland for the day; as the Arizona heat can be a bit much for both young and young at heart. Our usual choices for the grandkids would be a water park, museum or movie theater to escape the heat, but now there’s an indoor amusement park in Phoenix and Mesa. Since Cathy and I don’t like getting in to our bathing suits for the water parks, and the diverse ages of our 11 grandchildren, we opted for “Jambo” the indoor amusement park.

“Jambo” which means Hello in Swahili will say Hello to all the senses of your 1 ½ to 12 year old grandchild as there is plenty to see and participate in. “Jambo” features 3 indoor amusement park rides like the Flying elephant ride ( Dumbo) the jungle swing ride and the safari train. There is a private themed laser tag arena, a safari themed 2-lane mini bowling, l8 hole indoor miniature golf course and 3 robotic Safari Animals that our two, six and seven year olds loved riding. There is an indoor soft playground with slides tunnels and more. There is a Birthday Party area that is so much nicer than some of the themed birthday rooms that we’ve seen around town. The dining area has reasonable food including Pizza, hot dogs, popcorn Nachos and other typical park food.

There are two locations; one at 32^nd Street and Cactus and the other at Alma School in Mesa. The air conditioning was on full blast and the facility was clean with helpful employees. I don’t suggest you go once a week but a few times this summer could be fun for all. The grandchildren, all ages, were tired at the end of the day.

Mascara Can Wait

I think women can multi-task like nobody’s business. Men think multi-tasking is holding a beer in one hand and paying the bartender with the other. However, all is fair between the genders when it comes to distractions in the car. While women may be trying to apply mascara at 60 mph, I’ve seen men trying to comb over their bald spot while using their elbow to steer.
The automakers are trying to develop more and more technology to address some of these concerns but also realize the modern day “smart” phone needs to be held by and sold to “smart” people. No matter how up to date you are with technology, what good is it in the ER at the end of the day.

Here are some distractions all genders, all ages should be aware of:

1. Turn your cell phone off !!! OK use a hand-free device or the Blue Tooth option built into many of the newer vehicles. Use voice activation if your vehicle is equipped with it, or try the old fashioned way, pull over to make or receive a call. Each State has their own laws about hand held phones. I had an officer pull me over at a toll booth in New York and started yelling at me for having my phone to my ear.
2. Talking to fellow passengers. If you are having a casual conversation, keep your eyes on the road, there is no reason to look at the person straight in their eyes… especially if they are in the back seat.
3. Reaching for CDs, food or falling objects. Let them fall! I love the man or woman who is eating a big mac with one hand and has the soda in the other, driving with their knees. I get out of their way so quickly.
4. Don’t decide to program your radio stations on the road or tinker with heating seats, checking lights, adjusting mirrors, playing with moon roofs, watching eco lines go up and down. Please do your adjustments before you leave your home, or pull over in a safe place once you realize you need some help.
5. Don’t apply makeup, shave, tease your hair, put in your contacts or adjust your SPANX. Here is something I did one time and will never do again… I removed a pair of heels while driving so that I would not ruin the leather heel. In doing so, I got stuck and the car swerved.

Now I put my flats on till I get to my destination.

1. Don’t eat in the car ! Don’t open a can of soda or juice! Don’t dig in your purse for snacks or phone numbers or even gum. Try and be prepared before you start out.
2. Try not to entertain yourself with the outside distractions like colorful billboards, convertibles with cute girls or men with no shirts on. Know your limitations.
3. No smoking – for lots of reasons.
4. Don’t Drink and Drive and Don’t text and drive. What is so urgent it can’t wait?

You can see how the best of multi taskers should not test their skills while driving. Concentrate on the road and the drivers around you. Not everyone has read this article.

SAN DIEGO MOVE

In just one week this gandchild decided to try to walk.  A move to San Diego must have made the difference.  I suppose I will miss many firsts but skype and the phone and texting and photos should help me keep up.  How do you stay in touch with your grandchildren who don't live near you?

SUNBURN on BABIES

Use sunblock, not sunscreen on little babies and children.  This eight month old had sunscreen on and her face go so read and started to blister.  Fair skinned and never out in the sun.... beware.  SUN BLOCK and plenty of it.  Aloe Vera from the plant, not the supermarket worked pretty well.  Be careful... www.twofortheroadusa.com

Any Suggestions?

How uncomfortable can you get.  I know car seats are safe for the children but with her neck all to the side I really worried about her safety if we were rear ended or had some kind of accident.  Does anyone know if there is an additional neck roll or something you can purchase to keep her head up straight and safe. I bunched up a blanket at one point and tried to even out her neck... five minutes later it was back again.  I guess I worry too much.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Adventure – Excitement – Fly Fishing?

The year 2012 is the year of “let’s try it” and never saying ” I should have or I could have”. The two Cathy’s… Droz and Burford joined an organization called Sister’s on the Fly. This is a group of “women only” that swears “we have more fun than anyone.”
You can join the group and travel by car, plane, RV or “travel trailer” to experience adventures in fishing and horseback riding all over the country. Since both Cathy’s experience in riding and fly fishing are limited they chose fly fishing to focus on right now. Cathy Burford has experience as a kid growing up in California with a Dad who was a true outdoor enthusiast. Droz growing up in New York City went on pony rides at the park as a kid and fishing was something she thought was a card game “go fish”. They also decided to try their hands at refurbishing a vintage travel trailer. With the help of their husbands and old fashioned elbow grease the Cathy’s have a new project and hobby to take them through 2012.
Join the AZ fly girls as they work on their trailer, experience fly fishing and travel with a caravan of women who empower one another while having fun. AZ Fly Girls is the name and the theme is vintage airlines for the interior of the trailer.
